All summer long, we've had a small ant problem... Both in that the ants are small, and that there's not too many of them. They seem to come in through cracks along the bottom of the walls in our kitchen, and march around, following the baseboard... They don't seem to be going for anything specific, even in our pantry and behind the refrigerator.

For the last few months, we've been killing them with Lysol, spraying in the crack where they appear, and in their usual path. At first, it seemed to kill them and keep them away for a while, but now they seem rather resistant. Obviously, I needed some new ammo... Raid "Double Threat" ant traps seemed like the best option at Target. As with most ant traps, the idea is that the ants will go in, get some poison disguised as food, bring it back to their breeding grounds, and die with the rest of their ant friends. I set them up in 4 high ant-traffic areas in the kitchen, and got myself comfy on the floor next to the highest traffic area trap. I set this particular trap between the wall and the garbage can, directly next to their normal entrance crack... All ants entering there would have to cross the trap to continue on their normal trap.

My observations:
T= 5 minutes: Most ants are still marching around in their normal path, and either walking around, over, or under the trap. No takers yet.

T=10 minutes: 1 ant (Mildred) walked in and came out, but wasn't carrying anything.

T=11 minutes: Mildred walks back in, comes back out carrying small piece of poison. Mildred disappears into the entrance crack in the wall. My brilliant husband told me this morning that ants coming back from a food source will leave a trail for other ant friends to follow back to the food, Hansel and Gretel style.

T=13 minutes: 10-15 ants (Storm Troopers) come out from the entrance crack, moving about 2-3 times faster than usual. They all approach the trap, but do not go inside, instead climbing around it in a frenzy.

T=14 minutes: Storm Troopers go back into the crack, with no poison. I'm worried that the traps may be duds.

T=14.5 minutes: Continuous flow of frenzied ants come out from the entrance crack, go into the trap, bring poison back to the entrance crack. Beautiful.

T=60 minutes: Only 6-8 ants visible near trap, another 2-3 ants walking normal path around kitchen. Unbelievable.

T=Next morning: 1 ant near trap, 2 ants walking normal path around kitchen. Mission accomplished.
